On My Heart

Hi guys, long time, no see. Honestly I've been wanting to write a blog post for quite some time now but every time I sit down to write it the words just don't seem to come. I've been praying about it and the problem has been that the things I've wanted to say have not been helpful and probably would have turned into a rant and that's not what this blog is about. So hopefully soon I will have an actual post about self-worth up, I've been doing a lot of praying about it lately.

Anyway today I just wanted to post about something that has been on my heart. Some of you may know that I have been sponsoring a little girl from El Salvador named Idalia Marisol for a year and 8 months through World Vision. It has definitely blessed me and has opened my eyes to the poverty in this world. When I worked for Family Christian, who closely partnered with World Vision, I saw sweet little faces on the packets in our store and desperately wanted to see all of them sponsored. Every person I talked to in that store was offered the opportunity to potentially save a child's life and every "no thank you" broke my heart. When I had nothing to do (or honestly just didn't feel like working) I would grab the packets one by one and pray for each child. Personally, I signed up 10 sponsors in the 8 months that I worked there. I spent months looking at cute faces and saying "I would love to sponsor but I just can't afford it," before one day I saw Idalia's face on a packet.
Idalia Marisol- 8 years old
She likes to color and play with dolls.

I read her story, prayed for her and told God that if I couldn't find her a sponsor by the end of the day that I would sponsor her myself. Other kids got sponsored that day but by the end of my shift Idalia still hadn't gotten a sponsor so I signed up. I have never regretted that decision. I've loved watching her grow and I love getting letters from her.
She had just turned 9 when this picture was taken.
With all of that being said, I have been getting e-mails from World Vision asking for more child sponsors, specifically for children who have been waiting 2 or more years for a sponsor. Unfortunately I can't afford another $35 on top of the $35 I give to sponsor Idalia. But I thought that maybe some of you would be interested in sponsoring a child in need. You can do it as a family, you can sponsor with a friend, with your small group, or you can sponsor by yourself. No matter how you get the $35 a month it will be the best $35 you spend all month long, I promise you! You get to send letters, e-mails, gifts, etc. and you get to receive letters from your child! Sponsoring is the chance to pour into someone else's life, get to know them, and tell them about Jesus. For example, I learned through Idalia's letters that her favorite song is Father Abraham, how cool is that! And now that she is getting older and maturing I will be able to share the gospel with her more easily. I love sponsoring and getting to know this sweet little girl.
The latest picture I've gotten of Idalia (10 yrs old)

I'm going to attach the link for the children who have been waiting the longest to find sponsors, of course you don't have to choose from those children you can also just go to their general sponsorship page or you can sponsor a child who has been affected by HIV/AIDS. All of them need sponsors, and all of them need to be shown that they are loved and cared for by God and by His people.

If you can sponsor, AWESOME! You won't regret it! If you can't, click on the link anyway and pray for a few of the kids on there. Or get some of your friends to help chip in for the cost and then all of you can write letters to your new little friend. (I'd be willing to split a sponsorship with someone!)

Here are some verses that helped me make my decision, and seriously, if you want to split a sponsorship with me let me know!

James 1:27- "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
Philippians 2:4-" Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others."
1 John 3:17-18- "But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth."
Proverbs 19:17- "Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed."
