A Week with My Savior

Two Fridays ago at The Landing we were asked to answer the question, "Are you too busy for God?" One person's answer convicted me, "We are never too busy for God, we make ourselves too busy." The truth in that hit me really hard, when I got home I decided that I needed to take a break from social media and focus on the One that really matters in my life. I survived!
Bible reading is something that I know I struggle with. I have tried so hard to stay committed to the Bible reading calendar plans or reading one chapter a day. And honestly with those plans I get to a point where I just get bored because all of the reading plans are pretty much the same. So I Googled Bible reading plans and found Professor Grant Horner's Bible Reading System (just Google that and it will come up) and I absolutely LOVE IT! You read 10 chapters a day from 10 different lists that all end at different times so you can see how the Bible all fits together. Look for it because he can explain it better than I can. Anyway at first I thought 10 chapters was a little crazy and I didn't have time for it. But then I remembered that I make myself too busy and I do have time to read 10 chapters in the Living Word of God every day, more if I try hard enough. Professor Horner says that if you stick with it you will see how much you are starving yourself and he was right.
I have been starving myself spiritually. I mean yeah, reading any bit of the Bible every day is good and something that we should all do, but are we really giving ourselves enough Bread of Life to sustain us? Are we eating enough spiritual food to keep us going and help us grow into strong and mature Christians? I just recently learned that Christians means little Christs, are we becoming little Christs? How can we if we aren't reading the Bible, the Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth, the very words that God spoke for us to read? WE CAN'T!
My challenge for you is to find the thing that is keeping you away from reading your Bible, praying, and giving God the time that He deserves and give it up for a week (unless it's your job, I wouldn't want you to loose that but figure out time where you can focus on your Savior). Read your Bible. Pray. Listen for God. See how much you are starving yourself and after that week don't stop. Don't make yourself too busy for God, He wants to spend time with you. Seriously, try that Bible reading system, I'm pretty sure I have read more scripture in 7 days than I have in almost 6 years of being a Christian.
For those of you on this journey to a positive self-image and self-worth with me, how are you supposed to know how God sees you if you don't read His word where He will tell you exactly how much He loves you, and the lengths He went to to save you. Read His Word, listen to what it says about you, that is how you are going to gain your self-worth. Only through Jesus.
After spending a week focusing on my Savior I wonder why I ever took my focus off of Him. It is certainly not the easiest thing to do but I am going to do everything I can to make sure that my ultimate focus is on the One who saved me, and not on social media.
